Introduction

International Conference on Sustainable Environmental Technologies (ICSET) evolved from Asian Pacific Regional Conference (APRC). Apparently, APRC was an outcome of Environmental Quality Concern, Control and Conservation (EQC3) International Program of Chia Nan University of Pharmacy and Science at Tainan, Taiwan. The evolution of ICSET is inspired by the global call for sustainable development and environmental sustainability. Every scientist is aware that science and technology is the driver for development and economy rise (DER). However, DER always comes along with environmental and human health risk. Hence, education plays a significant role in risk reduction and that is by doing research and sharing of the acquired knowledge. Therefore, ICSET 2013 is the venue to share knowledge based from the results of researches which address sustainable development and environment.

EQC3 is conducted annually in Taiwan since 2002. However, APRC started in 2003 in Taiwan participated by Thailand, Philippines, Japan, and Korea. Following this kick-off event, APRC was continuously organized by different partner countries. In 2006, it was hosted by the University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD). In 2007, APRC was hosted by Khon Kaen University of Thailand. In 2008, it was hosted again by UPD as part of the commemoration of its 100-year celebration which then became UPD’s centennial conference. The APRC 2009 was hosted by Hanoi University of Technology, Hanoi, Vietnam and in 2010 it was hosted by Ubon Ratchathani University, Thailand. It was in 2011 that APRC was upgraded to its new name ICSET by which 2011 ICSET was hosted by Seoul National University. The upgrading of APRC to ICSET encouraged and opened opportunities to countries outside Asia to participate in the conference. ICSET 2012 was then hosted by King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), Bangkok, Thailand. The conference was held at Century Park Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand. This was the venue where the host of ICSET 2013 was announced; it is Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT) hosting the ICSET 2013! It would be in Manila, Philippines
